Dear Max and Bea
Thank you for a fabulous time on Wine and Water! It was such a memorable 4 days which were both interesting and relaxing. The accommodation was superb and most comfortable. I especially loved the main suite bathroom which was most attractively appointed with luxurious robes, towels and shampoo and gels, all most discretely replaced and changed daily. The main double suite had ample space with a large wardrobe and the twin size suites were more compact with a small upright cupboard for folded items but also with well designed single beds and an en suite shower room with loo. All plumbing facilities on board were excellent!! I wasn’t sure what to expect but was relieved to find proper loos! It does make the trip more like a hotel! In fact the barge is a hotel on water as everything on board is as you would expect in a hotel and more.
We slept so well and were welcomed each more with a delicious continental breakfast with fresh pastries, orange juice and a lovely pot of coffee/and or tea (selection). The wifi was a great asset to my daughter who likes to keep on line although it didn’t overpower the holiday as there was so much else to occupy us. The morning cycle ride was fun and great to do something with teenagers and young ones as well as good for the older ones too! It was enjoyable to cycle the canal and meet the different people at each lock. Back on board it was a treat to find a glass of wonderful white/red/rose wine in hand for ‘lunch time drinks’ and a superb luncheon set and served by Bea where we could enjoy and savour not only the delicious food, my favourite being the salad with bacon and poached egg and dressing, but also the exquisite surroundings! Divine! After a snooze or a jacuzzi and an added indulgence of a favourite novel, we much enjoyed visiting the nearby village for dinner in a local restaurant all selected by Max and most appropriate. Max had an incredible knowledge of his surroundings and history of the region which he enjoyed sharing with us. During one of the days Max was most informative at taking us around the wineries as we sampled the grapes of the region – all superb! Back on the barge Bea had prepared a delicious dinner with aptly selected wines to go with the various dishes. Another day we much enjoyed visiting the beautiful city of Beane; visiting the old hospital, wandering through the streets, visiting the shops and finally ending for lunch at a restaurant Max had selected. The four days came to an end so quickly and we much appreciated Max meeting us in Dijon and returning us to our train.
We highly recommend Water and Wine to anyone wanting some tranquillity as well as learning the history of one of the most beautiful regions in France. Max and Bea are delightful and won’t disappoint!
