Vandenesse-en-Auxois to Pont d’Ouche
This morning is your first opportunity to enjoy the Burgundy countryside as Wine & Water glides along the Canal de Bourgogne. While you enjoy breakfast, we leave Vandenesse-en-Auxois and begin to pass through the first locks. Arriving in the village of Crugey at midday, the chef will enchant you with a typical Burgundy menu.
After lunch, the voyage continues to Pont d’Ouche, where, after mooring, you will be driven to Beaune, an ancient walled town with a rich historical and architectural heritage, known as the wine capital of Burgundy.
Wander along the cobbled streets lined with boutiques, antique shops and wine shops. Soak up the atmosphere in the old market (les Halles), or discover the Basilica Notre Dame with its Renaissance bell tower and 15th century tapestries.
No visit to Beaune would be complete without a visit to the Hospices de Beaune. Built in 1443 as a hospital for the poor, care continued within its walls until 1970. This wonderful example of Gothic architecture comprises a stone courtyard, half-timbered galleries, turrets and ornate roofs with four-coloured glazed tiles, a trademark of Burgundian architecture.
You will return to Wine & Water through the Hautes Côtes vineyards in time to dress for dinner in a fairy tale château, in a nearby tiny village.
