Six-night cruise on board Wine & Water

Captain Max will meet you Sunday, 16:30hrs at Dijon train station, departure is the following Saturday morning before 10:00hrs or if needed earlier. Max will drive you back to the Dijon train station or to your hotel in Dijon.

Our idyllic Wine & Water cruise starts close to Dijon, capital city of Burgundy. The cruise finished up in the small Port of Escommes, approximately 50kms West of Dijon.

For the private wine tastings these will be reserved in the famous UNESCO Burgundian wine slopes, walking through the vineyards, visits to cellars or an estate, where you will enjoy red and white wines from the grandest vineyards.

The itinerary includes daily morning cruising and afternoon excursions (or vise-versa) depending on the day's program.

Highlights of the cruise on board Wine & Water

Cruising through the heart of the Burgundian countryside, whilst cruising possible to cycle, walk beside the Canal along the tree lined tow path.

A driving tour of the famous pretty Burgundian wine villages with private wine tastings in cellars, tasting Grand Crus & Première Crus, Max for many years has been organising wine tours for his guests, he is welcomed by the wine-owners everywhere with open arms, possible to ship back wines.

Visit the wine capital of Burgundy, Beaune, City of wines, with it's magnificent Hotel Dieu Hospice (a 15th century medieval hospital) and lovely old town centre, where you will find boutiques, antique shops, wine and food shops.

Visit Dijon, a guided tour of the famous Owls trail, the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, it's historical buildings, a colourful fresh morning market where you can cheese & mustard taste, it’s boutiques, not forgetting time to do a little shopping.

Visit the Clos de Vougeot, headquarters of the Chevaliers of the Tastevin and one of the worlds's most famous vineyards.

Just beside the Canal where we moor up, visit an 12th century Abbey, a 15th century medieval village.

An invitation to a typical Burgundian lunch in a restaurant on the outskirts of Beaune in a famous wine village.

Gastronomy on board, fresh local food specialising in Organic products, everyday the Chef arrives with local fresh produce, if needed possible to have on board GLUTEN free products.

On board an interesting wine cellar, Max will share his passion of his knowledge and love for wine, by introducing a range of exclusive wines by local wine makers.

On board Wine&Water the bar is open, WIFI, bluetooth.

Discovering Burgundy


Day 1: Fleurey S Ouche at only a 10 minutes drive from the City of DIJON

Guests are met at the designated meeting point either at the Dijon train station or hotel in Dijon, transferred to where the boat is moored up by the boats air-conditioned minibus. A warm welcome aboard awaits you by the 4 members of crew, with a Burgundy welcome KIR Royal, the perfect start to a unique and memorable few days in Burgundy.

Your first candlelit dinner on board the barge will mark your introduction to seasonal regional specialities and the wines of Captain Max.

Day 2: Fleurey sur Ouche - Gissey sur Ouche

Cruise in the morning, after lunch on board Wine&Water, a drive out with the air conditioned minivan to Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, a stunning symbol of Burgundy’s wine history and attracts lovers of history, architecture. Afterwards you will drive to the renowned village of Gevrey Chambertin for a reserved private wine tasting.

Day 3: stay overnight at Gissey sur Ouche

No cruising today a full days visit, 2 private wine tastings, for lunch invited to a restaurant in a famous wine village on the outskirts of Beaune where you will again taste wines, after a visit of the famous wine town of Beaune where there is a 15th century medieval hospital.

You'll also have time to wander around the town center and view the boutiques, cafés and other sites along the cobbled streets.

Day 4: Gissey sur Ouche - Pont d'Ouche

Today is the lazy day for you, lunch on board, cruising, relaxing, at the same time enjoying the Captain's different wines from the barge's cellar and delicious seasonal food.

Dinner tonight will be reserved for you in a nearby 17th century castle built in an old monastery



Day 5: Pont d'Ouche - Vandenesse en Auxois

Cruise in the morning, after lunch at around 15:00hrs a visit to a medieval village, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois one of the last remaining examples of 14th century Burgundian military architecture. During the Hundred Years War, towers and curtain walls were built to defend the village. It's easy to imagine the history of this once prosperous borough, if you are curious and look around carefully you will see houses with pediments and stair turrets.

Day 6: Vandenesse en Auxois - Escommes

Cruise in the morning to the summit of the canal. After lunch a drive to a charming little wine-producing family, where a local wine producer will greet you. You will learn more about the wine making process and enjoy a tasting of local wines.

Day 7: Day of departure

After breakfast before 10:00hrs or earlier, we will drive you back to the Dijon train station to catch your train or to your hotel in DIJON or to a car rental agency.

Our cruises are conceived to allow our guests to relax, to truly experience the Burgundian atmosphere and lifestyle of this beautiful region through custom-tailored activities and personal cultural experiences.
