Arrival Sunday afternoon, departure Saturday morning

The Captain Max will meet you Sunday, 16:30hrs at the Dijon train station, departure is the following Saturday morning before 10:00hrs, if needed earlier.

Max will drive you back to the Dijon train station or to your hotel in Dijon.

Our idyllic Wine & Water cruise starts close to Dijon, capital city of Burgundy.

The cruise ends up in the small Port of Escommes, approximately 50kms West of Dijon.

For the private wine tastings these will be reserved in the famous UNESCO Burgundian wine slopes, walking through the vineyards, visits to cellars or an estate, where you will enjoy red and white wines from the grandest vineyards.

The itinerary includes either a morning or afternoon cruise and either a morning or afternoon excursions (or vise-versa) depending on the day's program.

Highlights of the cruise on board Wine & Water cruising along the Burgundy Canal

· Cruising through the heart of the Burgundian countryside, whilst cruising possible to cycle or walk beside the Canal along the tree lined tow path.

· A driving tour of the UNESCO wine slopes and famous wine villages with private wine tastings reserved in cellars, tasting Grand Crus & Première Crus. Max, Captain of Wine&Water and our other tour guide Sacha who comes from a Burgundian family of oenologues have both been organising for a few years now wine tours for guests, they are welcomed by the wine-owners with open arms, possible to ship back wines!

·Visit the WINE capital of Burgundy, Beaune, with it's magnificent Hotel Dieu Hospice (a 15thC medieval hospital and lovely old town center, where you will find boutiques, antique shops, wine and food shops.

·Visit the CAPITAL of Burgundy, Dijon, a guided tour of the famous DIJON Owls trail, historical buildings, a colourful fresh morning market where you can cheese and mustard taste, it’s boutiques, time to do a little shopping.

· Visit the Clos de Vougeot, headquarters of the Chevaliers of the Tastevin and world famous vineyards, this is where it all began, the winemaking was developed by the monks you will see here the ancient 13th century grape presses which they used.

·Visit a 12th century Abbey and its park also a 15th century Chateau in a medieval village.

·Invited to a nearby lovely old Chateau for dinner.

·Invited to a typical Burgundian lunch time restaurant in a famous wine village on the outskirts of Beaune.

·Gastronomy on board, every morning our Chef arrives on board with fresh local food specialising in organic products, if needed possible to have on board organic food at all meals and not the high-fat “luxury” foods, buffet lunches and 4 course evening meal, an appetizer, the main course, selection of cheeses and then dessert.

·Including with all meals, a choice of the famous classical Burgundy wines & if you prefer we can provide organic wines, preservative free, biodynamic & natural wines, less powerful hangovers, fewer chemicals, and kinder to the environment, kindly let us know beforehand.

·If not on board the barge Max has an interesting wine cellar, he will share his passion of his knowledge and love for wine, by introducing a range of the exclusive wines by the local wine makers.

·On board Wine&Water the bar is open, WIFI, great music with Bluetooth connection for you as well.

·On board 4/5 crew, Max the Captain, Bea manager & hostess, Linzi day time hostess, Chef Jo, tour guide, all speak English and French!

Discovering Burgundy


Day 1: Fleurey S Ouche at only a 10 minutes drive from the City of DIJON

Guests are met at the designated meeting point either at the Dijon train station or hotel in Dijon, transferred to where the boat is moored up by the boats air-conditioned minibus. A warm welcome aboard awaits you by the 4 members of crew, with a Burgundy welcome KIR Royal, the perfect start to a unique and memorable few days in Burgundy.

Your first candlelit dinner on board the barge will mark your introduction to seasonal regional specialities and the wines of Captain Max.

Day 2: Fleurey sur Ouche - Gissey sur Ouche

Cruise in the morning, after lunch on board Wine&Water, a drive out with the air conditioned minivan to Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, a stunning symbol of Burgundy’s wine history and attracts lovers of history, architecture. Afterwards you will drive to the renowned village of Gevrey Chambertin for a reserved private wine tasting.

Day 3: stay overnight at Gissey sur Ouche

No cruising today a full days visit, 2 private wine tastings, for lunch invited to a restaurant in a famous wine village on the outskirts of Beaune where you will again taste wines, after a visit of the famous wine town of Beaune where there is a 15th century medieval hospital.

You'll also have time to wander around the town center and view the boutiques, cafés and other sites along the cobbled streets.

Day 4: Gissey sur Ouche - Pont d'Ouche

Today is the lazy day for you, lunch on board, cruising, relaxing, at the same time enjoying the Captain's different wines from the barge's cellar and delicious seasonal food.

Dinner tonight will be reserved for you in a nearby 17th century castle built in an old monastery



Day 5: Pont d'Ouche - Vandenesse en Auxois

Cruise in the morning, after lunch at around 15:00hrs a visit to a medieval village, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois one of the last remaining examples of 14th century Burgundian military architecture. During the Hundred Years War, towers and curtain walls were built to defend the village. It's easy to imagine the history of this once prosperous borough, if you are curious and look around carefully you will see houses with pediments and stair turrets.

Day 6: Vandenesse en Auxois - Escommes

Cruise in the morning to the summit of the canal. After lunch a drive to a charming little wine-producing family, where a local wine producer will greet you. You will learn more about the wine making process and enjoy a tasting of local wines.

Day 7: Day of departure

After breakfast before 10:00hrs or earlier, we will drive you back to the Dijon train station to catch your train or to your hotel in DIJON or to a car rental agency.
