Dear Bea and Max,
We want to thank you so very much for the magical week we spent with you, Linzi and Jo, on the Wine and Water barge. I have just reread the letters from other clients and I don’t think I can add anything more original than to say it was a trip of a lifetime for two people who have travelled in many ways, and to many places, in their lives.
Like a walking tour, seeing Burgundy from a slow moving barge allows a traveler to see and experience a beautiful region in an entirely unique way. Time slowed down, observations were sharper, conversations more memorable. As a friend of mine once said, “prends le temps de vivre.” And we did that.
Since Burgundy is the first region where we lived when we first came to France in 1990, it will always occupy a special place in our hearts. You added so much to that special place just by being yourselves, and by serving us wonderful wine and food.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We hope to see you again with other friends and family.

Bonjour Bea and Max!
Firstly, I would like to start by saying a most sincere "thank you" from Tracie and I. We had such a wonderful trip aboard Wine&Water. We felt so well taken care of the entire time. You and Max and the girls were such wonderful company. The setting, boat, food, wine and excursions were all top notch. I greatly look forward to sending you my clients, and have already reached out to several who have expressed interest.

Dear Bea, Max, Linzi and Jo
Thank you all for a memorable holiday on your barge, we thoroughly enjoyed it and it was all we had hoped for when we booked.
It was a pity about the mixed weather, this was out of our control but this did not dampen our enjoyment of the lovely food from Jo and the excellent quality and variety of the wines we were able to drink and enjoy.
The photo of Jo bringing in my birthday cake and fireworks will be going into our holiday album – thank you.
Our meals and visits off the barge were good and it was nice to meet and have a short chat to Clive at The Abbey and hear about their previous hotel/restaurants at The Inn on the Lake (very close to us and we have been to) and Amberley Castle where a number of people we know have had weddings.
Linzi (I hope I have spelt your name correctly) looked after us very well – elevenses at home is a cup of coffee but with you was a glass of wine, ditto in the evenings as 5.00pm is a cup of tea but we soon got used to another glass of wine – at least we did not catch up the Australians for volume!
Thank you for the wine apron, it will be a lasting memory and we have a couple of bottles of wine to have next year on my birthday to remind us again of this holiday.
Very best wishes to you all from Clive and Alison

Hello Bea and Max,
We so often think about our time with you aboard Wine + Water and hope that you are both doing well. We arrived on September 24, 2017 with cousin Dave & Karen Adderley.
We have recommended your Burgundy canal cruise to several friends. Marie and Bill Trory have told us that they have a hold on a week in June 2019; they are waiting for their friends to commit to the vacation with them.
Please say Hello to Linzi and Selby for us. We'd love to hear from you.

WINE & WATER: a very special barge on the Burgundy Canal
Owners, Captain and First Mate: Max and Bea Renau
If you own a boat, or have nautical experience, you will soon notice that every design detail of the barge WINE & WATER has been executed by those with lifelong experience and great taste on the lovely Canal of Burgundy. The living room settee is decorated with exquisite linen curtains, and elegantly matching wall paper. There is a pulldown curtain which discreetly separates the Pullman galley from the dining area.
The foredeck provides both sunny and shaded areas for outdoor aperitifs and dining, weather permitting, as the beautiful countryside glides by. The staterooms are very comfortable, with deep drawers under the beds. The showers are better than most hotels, with shelves in just the right place for soap, shampoos and more.
As we pass from lock to lock, we are warmly welcomed because Max is admired throughout the region as a Duc of the Burgundy Canal: he was born and brought up here, living his early years either on a barge or in Lock House #10. His articulate and heartfelt explanations make the (previous) Ducs of Burgundy come alive, and make sense for us of the countervailing forces which have shaped this special region from the 14th Century to the French Revolution.
Max’s superb selections of wines to drink, and vineyards to enjoy, are by themselves worthwhile for a dedicated visit by any advanced oenofile. His incredibly deep knowledge of the region’s wines go far beyond your advanced tastevin. He can explain brilliantly the many facets of each plot, and how and why the tastes and aromas will be subtly different. He was able to arrange superbly smooth visits and tastings to otherwise unapproachable chateaux.
Max and Bea are able to attract and retain “A” players like Joanne and Linzi because they too want to be part of the very best team in the region, and benefit from a schedule that allows them to be at home in the area with their families each night. The quality of their lunch and dinner cuisine and service far exceeds any reasonably high expectations.
We were three couples. We are already making plans to come back.
I just wanted to drop you quick note to say the cruise was far better than we had ever imagined. Max, Bea, Lindsey, and Jo were WONDERFUL, catering to our every need and going out of their way to make our vacation memorable. We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this experience. We'll recommend Wine and Water to all our friends for sure. Thanks for everything!

Bea,. A belated thank you for a great trip. Everyone and everything was wonderful. Can't express how much we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, while waiting for the train in Dijon, Bob and I went to the Archeology Museum and I tripped on the stairs. Taken to the Hospital by ambulance and stitched up. All is well now, a bit sore and bruised but recovering nicely. Wishing you a great season. Would love to come back.

Dear Wine and Water Friends, My trip on the Wine & Water barge is now at the top of my Best Ever list! I was very, very spoiled by your attention to my comfort - especially dear Captain Max - TWO trips to Paris just to spare me stairs at the railroad!! My best wishes to you Bea, as well as Lindzi and Selby. You all made us feel so at home. Many many thanks!

Hi Bea & Max, Shelby & Linzi, we are still celebrating our fantastic experience with Wine & Water ~ thought you might like to see our invitation!
I want to thank you, Max, Selby and Lindzi again for one of the best weeks of my life! I have already given one of your cards to my doctor, who travels a lot, and will recommend you to everyone I can think of who might enjoy such a trip.
We must now need to adjust to real life - not so much fun but necessary. Fondly,

We arrived home safely on Saturday evening at around 1900, and the dogs were delighted to see us!
Just a short note to pass on our grateful thanks once again to you and Max, Selby and Linzi for all your hard work in looking after us so well during our very enjoyable week on board Wine & Water. We will hold on to some great memories for a very long time, and to remind us of our time with you we opened a bottle of Burgundy wine last night to have with our dinner – see attached photo!
We look forward to seeing you in October, so do keep in touch.

UYSA JUNE 2017
What a fabulous way to spend quality time with great friends. We just returned from the Wine and Water cruise of the Burgundy Region in France. From our first meeting with Max, the tone of gracious hospitality was set. The beautiful barge is spacious and comfortable, the Reanu’s have built a lovely ship. Max, our captain, Chef Dave and lovely Becky made our trip informative, delicious, and delightful.
Your day is set from awakening to fresh pastries and coffee, we then walked through the beautiful countryside as the barge cruised along the tree-lined canal. At noon we hopped back on the barge and were greeted by Becky with a wonderful selection of wine from the area. Chef Dave followed with a 3 course luncheon on the deck. Chef Dave’s skills rival any top chef. After lunch, we would relax on the barge. The afternoon, always held great surprises for us. Max is not only a wonderful host, but a great tour guide. Max’s knowledge of the area’s wines, architecture and history was amazing!
We would tour wineries, chateaus, museums throughout our afternoons, then return home to our lovely barge. Once back on the barge, we beganmore wine tasting from selections chosen by Max. Dinner followed and we must say our 4 course dining was remarkable. Great conversations ensued and sometimes even dancing!
For a truly joyous vacation, we highly recommend Wine and Water. It is a great way to reward yourself.
All the Best, Nancy and Zach Zacharias
We totally enjoyed our time with you and hope to see you again in the future. Max: If you ever decide to try some of the canals in the South of France please let us know. I know that we will be returning to Burgundy so we will contact you. Maybe a cruise with our children. In the meantime we will keep telling everyone we meet about you two and Wine and Water. Cannot think of a better place to recommend.
Please remember if you ever come to the US the offer always available to stay with us.
Our best to Sasha and Sobie
Jeff (and Tami)
We arrived safe and sound back in Toronto and finally in Port Colborne.
We cannot speak of any sort of routine or “back to normal” just yet, although this will happen quickly.
It is with the greatest respect of your contribution as we try to re-tell our “barge” experiences to family and friends.
All three of you have in your own way contributed so much to the success of this extraordinary, calm and joyful time.
Max the elicit Wonder-Captain, entertainer, “all hands-on-deck-man”, driver, well sort of, and history buff who I am sure, surprised us all.
Selby, the singer, well sort of, but excellent chef, always presented us with his creations and pleased us immensely with his versatility.
Now you Bea, are the perfect hostess with a special talent in the decorum and fantasy of presenting breakfast lunch and dinner with such panache.
The cleanliness in all facets and selection of good towels and linen was appreciated.
Most of all we never “felt” as guest of a business, but rather like “in the home/barge of” friends.
Each one of you is to be complimented for your personal contribution to our well being.
Needless to say, nothing would have happen without the contribution and extreme generosity of John Marsh and his wife Rosanne.
Of course I personally am sidelined by the knowledge of wine talk by John, Sasha and Max, but I “enjoyed” the wine tremendously.
Furthermore when the talk involved boating, the 1950 engine and the manoeuvring of the barge or boat, again I could add very little.
Margaret and I enjoyed our stay in Europe immensely and every minute of the trip, thanks to all of you, sadly to say it ended too quickly.
If you take John and Rosanne’s offer on, which we hope you do, there would be another chance of meeting again.
We would be very happy to invite you for a “Hasenpfeffer, Spätzle and Blaukraut” a southern German and Alsatian dish.
In the hope that your season comes to a successful conclusion, that you have a restful time in Chamonix and Max get all his Barge plan upgrading realized and that Selby enjoys his experience in Chamonix, we remain hopeful to see you again,
fondly, Margaret and Emil
