Cruise: 43 locks, either a morning cruise or an afternoon cruise, mooring up overnight. On the Burgundy Canal between the locks, passengers can either select to either walk or bicycle along the tow-paths, enjoyable easy traffic-free cycling routes

All-inclusive: Breakfast, 2 lunches and 3 evening dinners served on-board, including all beverages, local wines and spirits.

EXTRA: taken ashore at guests' expense, 2 lunches and 2 dinners, a way for you to explore some of the local nearby restaurants, when on board the Captain will help you with your restaurant choices and provide transportation within a 30kms radius from where the boat's mooring.

Wine & Water: Cruise Highlights

·Private wine tours on the UNESCO World Heritage wine slopes of Burgundy, visiting wine cellars and estates, wandering through vineyards and tasting a variety of Burgundy’s celebrated wines.

·Wine & Water travels through the heart of the Burgundian countryside on one of the prettiest parts of the Burgundy Canal.

·Whilst cruising, you will have the opportunity to cycle or walk along the tree-lined towpath beside the canal.

·A chauffeur-driven tour of the notably pretty Burgundian wine villages with private wine tastings in cellars, tasting Grand Crus & Première Crus. Max has been organising wine tours for his guests for many years, and he is welcomed with open arms by the wine-owners everywhere. It is also possible to ship wines home.

·Visit the ancient walled town of Beaune, known as the wine capital of Burgundy, with its magnificent Hotel-Dieu hospice (a 15th century medieval hospital) and its historic centre, where you will find boutiques and antique shops as well as wine and food merchants.

·Visit Dijon and participate in a guided tour of the famous Owls trail. Marvel at the range of building styles, visit the elegant Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, wander through a colourful morning market, its stalls brimming with fresh produce, taste cheeses and the eponymous mustard, and take the opportunity to do a little shopping.

·Visit the Clos de Vougeot, a wall-enclosed vineyard and headquarters of the Chevaliers du Tastevin.

·Visit a 12th century abbey and a 15th century medieval village, right beside the canal where we moor up!

·Invitation to dinner in a lovely old château nearby.

·Invitation to a typical Burgundian restaurant on the outskirts of Beaune in a famous wine village for lunch.

·On-board gastronomy: with an emphasis on fresh local produce, sourced each day by the chef, you can be confident of gourmet cuisine. It is also possible to cater for specific dietary requirements including organic products and gluten free options.

Sunday, once onboard you will start cruising

Day 1: Fleurey-sur-Ouche afternoon cruise to Pont-de -Pany

You will be met by the Captain at the designated meeting point either at Dijon train station or at your hotel in Dijon. In the comfortable air-conditioned comfort of our minibus you will be transferred to where Wine&Water is moored up, a 20 minutes drive from the Dijon train station.

Y The four crew members will be waiting to welcome you warmly aboard with a Burgundy KIR Royal, the perfect start to a unique and memorable few days in Burgundy.

Y After the presentation, the cruise begins, the pilot will show how entering a lock is like trying to get a large four-wheel drive into a compact-car parking space, trying not to scrape the sides of the barge. You will cruise through 4 locks and then moor up for your first candlelit onboard dinner, an introduction to seasonal, regional specialities and the wines of Captain Max.

Day 2: Pont-de-Pany a morning cruise to Gissey-sur-Ouche

We depart for a morning cruise, time and scenery float slowly by, after lunch aboard Wine & Water, you will be driven to the Renaissance style Château du Clos de Vougeot. attracting lovers of history and architecture alike, the château is a unique symbol of Burgundy’s wine history. Afterwards, you will be driven to the picturesque village of Gevrey Chambertin for a reserved private tasting of its renowned wine.

Day 3: Gissey-sur-Ouche afternoon cruise to La-Bussiere-Sur-Ouche

Morning visit to the capital of Burgundy, DIJON, visit the colourful fresh morning market, the medieval streets, the Ducal Palace, mustard and gift shops and a little time for you to shop. Lunch is in one of your chosen or recommended restaurants. After lunch a drive back to the barge Wine&Water for a lazy afternoon, cruising to a peaceful hidden away small Port at La-Bussiere-Sur-Ouche.

Day 4: La-Bussiere-Sur-Ouche afternoon cruise to Pont-d’Ouche

Morning visit to a medieval hill top village, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, listed as one of the 'most beautiful villages of France'. With a commanding position, high on the hillside, the fortress is one of the last remaining examples of 14th-century Burgundian military architecture. The fortifications were built around the 12th century keep when facing the threat of the Hundred Years’ War. Look around the side streets, at the houses with stair turrets and pediments, and it will be easy to imagine the history of this once prosperous village, after lunch in one of your chosen restaurants or our recommended choice of 3 restaurants, once again an afternoon just cruising and relaxing.

Day 5: Pont-d’Ouche morning cruise to Vandenesse-en-Auxois

Cruise in the morning, and then, after lunch aboard the barge, a drive to the famous wine village Aloxe-Corton, a lovely Chateau with caves full of history looking over the Corton Hill vineyards, here they produce truly rare and marvellous Burgundies which are at the very peak of the region’s finest wines, afterwards, you will visit the celebrated town of Beaune, with its 15th-century medieval hospital, where you will have time to shop and relax in the lively town square.

Day 6: Vandenesse-en-Auxois to Escommes

Cruise in the morning, and then, after lunch, a drive to a charming little wine-producing family, where a local wine producer will greet you. You will continue to learn about the wine making process and enjoy further tastings of local wines.

Day 7: Day of departure

After breakfast, just before 10:00hrs or earlier if you need, we will drive you back to Dijon train station to catch your train, to your hotel in DIJON or to a car rental agency.
